AI Write Assist
Getting started with AI write assist
The AI write assist panel lives on the right side of the Write view. It helps you continue prose, improve existing passages, brainstorm ideas, or run custom prompts — all with awareness of your world's context.
Opening the panel
In the Write view, click AI in the toolbar. The panel slides in from the right without closing your editor.
The four built-in modes
| Mode | What it does |
|------|-------------|
| Continue | Extends the selected passage or the current scene's last paragraph |
| Improve | Rewrites the selected text for clarity, rhythm, or style |
| Brainstorm | Generates ideas — plot directions, dialogue options, scene beats |
| Custom | Send any freeform prompt you like |
Selecting text for context
Highlight text in the editor before opening the panel to give the AI a specific passage to work from. Without a selection, the AI uses the last few paragraphs of the current scene.
World state context
If your scene has an in-world date anchor, the AI automatically receives:
- The active entity snapshots for characters, locations, and factions mentioned in the scene
- The era and world calendar context
- Any chapter or scene notes you've written in the Plan view
This means the AI won't accidentally reference a character's secret identity before it's been revealed in the story's timeline.
Alias reveal gating
Aliases and alternate identities are filtered from the AI context based on the scene's chapter position. The AI only sees personas that have been revealed at or before the current point in the story.
