World-Building
Creating and managing worlds
A world is the top-level container for your story universe. Everything in the Codex — characters, locations, factions, history — lives inside a world.
Creating a world
In your dashboard, click Worlds in the sidebar, then New World. Give it a name and an optional description. You can add:
- Cover image — displayed on your public world page
- Map image — the base layer for the interactive world map
- Genres and themes — used for discovery and search
- Calendar — define the eras of your world's history
Linking to books and series
When you create a book, you can link it to a world. This connection powers:
- Codex entity dropdowns in the book's chapter and scene settings
- AI context: the world's entities are available for entity highlighting and AI prompts
- Public world pages showing which books are set in that world
Making a world public
A world is private by default. Toggle Public on the world's settings page to make its page discoverable. Readers can browse your world's Codex, map, and timeline for entities you've marked as visible.
World calendar
Define the eras of your world under Settings → Calendar. Each era has:
- A name (e.g. "The First Age")
- Start and end dates in in-world years
- A sort key for timeline ordering
Eras appear in the world timeline, on entity pages, and in the in-world date pickers for scenes.
