Aliases and reveal gating
Aliases let you record alternate identities for any entity — a spy's cover name, a character's title in a later era, or a faction's public-facing name that conceals its true nature.
Adding an alias
Open any entity's detail page and click the Aliases tab. Click + New Alias and enter:
- Alias name — the alternate identity
- Type — e.g. cover identity, title, nickname, former name
- First appears in — the book and chapter where this alias is introduced
Reveal gating
Aliases can be gated: they're hidden from readers (and from AI context) until the alias has been revealed in the story. The gate is tied to a chapter position — once a reader passes that chapter, the alias becomes visible to them.
This prevents spoilers in public Codex views and keeps the AI from accidentally referencing a character's secret identity when writing earlier scenes.
Personas on non-character entities
Factions, Creatures, Items, Organizations, and Locations also support personas — useful for factions with cover organizations, items with hidden properties, or locations with secret identities.
The dirty-state save button
The alias save button only becomes active when you've made a change. This prevents accidental blank saves and makes it clear when you have unsaved edits.
