World maps: placing entities and the era timeline
The World Map view lets you pin Codex entities onto a map image and see how placements change across your world's history.
Setting up your map
Open your world's settings and upload a map image. Any image works — a scanned painting, a digital render, or a simple sketch. Positions are stored as percentages of the image dimensions, so the map scales correctly at any resolution.
Placing an entity
- Open the Codex detail page for any location, character, faction, or other entity
- Click the Map tab
- Click + Place on Map
- Click the position on the map image where the entity should appear
- Choose which era(s) this placement applies to
You can place the same entity at different positions across different eras — a city that moved, a character who relocated, a faction that expanded its territory.
The era timeline scrubber
The World Map view has a scrubber at the top anchored to your world's eras. Drag it forward and back through time to see entities appearing and disappearing as their placement eras match the scrubber position. This gives you a living visual history of your world.
Map placement visibility
Placements respect the entity's visibility settings. Entities marked private don't appear on the public map view even if they have placements.
