Reader passage highlights
Logged-in readers can highlight passages in published manuscripts in four colors, with optional notes. Authors can view aggregate highlight data for their scenes.
How readers highlight
While reading a scene on a public book page:
- Select any passage of text
- A small toolbar appears above the selection
- Choose a highlight color (yellow, green, blue, or pink)
- Optionally add a note to the highlight
- Click Save
Sharing highlights
A highlight can be made public or kept private. Public highlights are shareable via a direct link — useful for book clubs, discussions, or quoting a favorite passage on social media.
Author analytics
As an author, open your book's Review tab in the Studio to see highlight data:
- Which scenes have the most highlights
- Which passages are highlighted by multiple readers (hot spots)
- Color distribution across highlights
Hot spots — passages highlighted by multiple independent readers — are particularly useful revision signals. A cluster of blue or pink highlights on the same paragraph often means something confused readers or sparked questions.
