Desktop App
Installing and activating Stream Facility Studio
Stream Facility Studio is a native Windows/macOS desktop app that runs the full writing platform locally — offline, no browser required. It syncs with your web account when you're ready.
Download
Go to Dashboard → Desktop on the web platform. Download the installer for your operating system:
- Windows —
.exeinstaller (Windows 10/11, 64-bit) - macOS —
.dmginstaller (Universal: Apple Silicon + Intel)
First launch: activation
When you open the app for the first time, an activation window appears. Enter your Stream Facility email and password and click Activate. The app:
- Verifies your credentials with the platform
- Downloads and installs your license automatically
- Opens the full dashboard — no manual license file needed
You stay signed in indefinitely. A 90-day session token is stored in your OS keychain (Windows Credential Manager on Windows, Keychain on macOS) and refreshed on each sync.
License model
Your license is tied to your Pro subscription. If your subscription lapses:
- A banner appears at the top of the app
- All writing features keep working indefinitely — your local data is never locked
- Sync to the web platform is paused until you renew
This is intentional: your manuscripts are always yours, even if you stop subscribing.
Signing out
Go to Dashboard → Desktop → AI Settings and click Sign out at the top of the page. The app closes, clears your session from the keychain, and returns to the activation screen.
Updating the app
Download the new installer from Dashboard → Desktop and run it — it updates over the existing installation without touching your synced data.
Security
License files are signed with HMAC-SHA256. A tampered or forged license is rejected at startup. Your password is never stored locally — only the post-authentication session token is kept, in the OS keychain.
